Kodo Millet known as Varagu in Tamil, Haraka in Kannada, Arikelu in Telugu, and Kodra or Kodo ka Chawal in Hindi is one of the oldest cultivated grains in India. Long before rice became the dominant staple, kodo millet fed communities across South India and the Deccan plateau, cherished for its natural hardiness, its exceptional nutritional density, and its remarkable ability to grow in dry, low-rainfall conditions where other grains would fail. It is a grain that belongs to the Indian table, and Safe Harvest is bringing it back in its cleanest, most traceable form.

Safe Harvest Kodo Millet Rice is grown by small women farmers in Tamil Nadu using sustainable, eco-friendly farming practices without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Every batch is tested in NABL-accredited third-party laboratories for 230+ synthetic pesticide residues before it is packed. The lab report for your specific batch is publicly accessible. Scan the QR code on your pack and verify what you are eating before you open it.

Unpolished and minimally processed to retain every layer of its natural nutrition, Safe Harvest Kodo Millet is naturally high in dietary fibre for healthy digestion, good bowel function, and sustained fullness throughout the day. It is rich in calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and B vitamins including niacin and B6, supporting bone strength, healthy blood production, nerve function, and steady energy.

It is naturally gluten-free too, making it an ideal grain for those with gluten sensitivity or those following a gluten-free diet. Its low glycaemic index makes it a considered dietary choice for people managing diabetes, weight, or overall metabolic health. It supports heart health through its natural antioxidant content and essential mineral profile.

As a rice substitute, kodo millet is remarkably versatile. It cooks like rice, absorbs flavours beautifully, and works across the full range of South Indian and North Indian everyday recipes. Before cooking, wash and soak the millet in water for 6 to 8 hours for best results and easy digestion.

Grown by our network of 1 lakh women farmers using pesticide-free practices and handled in dedicated clean facilities from harvest to pack, this is the cleanest, most traceable kodo millet in India.

What is pesticide free farming?

Picture this: birds on tiny perches scanning crops like vigilant sky-patrols, sunshine-yellow marigold borders keeping the bad bugs away, and a spicy cocktail of neem, garlic, and chili, made by our women farmers, controlling pests with flair. No synthetic pesticides sneaking into your kitchen. Working with nature, not against her. This, in a nutshell, is pesticide-free farming.
